Your own account with the broker

The first practical step: a broker account that is entirely in your name, with the settings that let it copy the strategy properly.

The first practical step

The previous lesson described the model: trades mirrored from the strategy’s account into yours, with the money never leaving your hands. This lesson is the first of four practical steps, and it is the one everything else rests on. Before anything can be copied, there has to be an account to copy into, and it has to be yours in every sense that matters.

Why the account has to be yours

Because everything else in the model depends on it. The account is opened by you, verified against your identity documents, and accessible only with your credentials. You can see every trade, every fee and every cent in it, in real time, on a platform that we do not control. You can withdraw from it or disconnect the strategy without asking anyone. None of that works if the account belongs to somebody else.

Step one: register with RoboForex

You register your own account with RoboForex, either personal or corporate, and the process takes about five minutes. During registration, enter Partner ID: Infinity. Without the partner ID we cannot activate the special conditions, so enter it on the registration form rather than trying to add it later.

The account is entirely in your name. Infinity is recorded as the introducing partner, which is what the ID does, and nothing more.

Choosing the account settings

Three settings on the account affect how well it copies, and the broker’s own guidance is to align them with the strategy you intend to follow:

  • Platform. Copying only works within the same platform as the strategy. Our strategies run on MetaTrader 5, so your account must be a MetaTrader 5 account. Any real account type works except demo and netting accounts.
  • Currency. A different account currency from the strategy’s is allowed, but every copied position then carries an extra exchange rate exposure between the two currencies, and the broker notes that this changes both margin requirements and results.
  • Leverage. Your leverage does not have to match the strategy’s, but lower leverage means more margin per position, and if margin runs out a trade is not copied.

Each strategy page on this site states the account settings it expects. Open the account with those settings and change nothing else. If a setting is not mentioned, the broker’s default for that account type is fine.

Identity verification

Before the account can receive money, the broker must verify who you are. This is a legal requirement on every regulated broker, not a formality of ours, and it is the reason the account cannot belong to anyone but you. Expect to upload an identity document and a proof of address, and to wait for approval before depositing. Do it straight after registration so that it is not the thing holding up the first copied trade.

What comes next

After registration you will be asked to verify your identity, which the broker is legally required to do before you can deposit. Then the account is ready for money, which is the next lesson: your own capital, in your own custody.
